Rejoicing through disappointments!

Josh and Beth Paulick on October 16, 2017

Beth was able to attend a women’s conference the last weekend of September based on Titus 2 principles.  “Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine.  They are to teach what is good, and so train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.” Titus 2:3-4  This conference focused on the principles of having sound doctrine, having self-control, purity, being kind and what submission looks like.  This was such a good conference and reminder of how to be a godly woman in our culture.
We had some disappointing news a few weeks ago when we found out we had to increase our budget because one of our children wasn’t in our budget.  Rather than leave one of our children in the states, we decided to increase our monthly support needed.  We are thankful that it was discovered now and not when we were ready to leave.  Our percentage dropped about 10 percent.  We are officially at 73% and with verbal commitments, closer to 75%.  We are disappointed, but we will not make the requirements to attend Field Prep Seminar this fall with the assignments we have for our organization and for the increased support we need, which means we will not be leaving in January as we had planned.  The deadline to be at 85% and to have our assignments completed was today, October 16th.  We’ve been learning a lot about how God’s timing is not always our timing, but it is always perfect.  Not leaving in January means we will leave in August to start language classes in September when the next semester starts.  Elijah loves Kindergarten at Dayton Christian and is very excited that he gets to stay for the school year.
It’s been a whirlwind of a couple of weeks, but Josh finished up working his last as a surgeon in the United States on September 27th.  We closed on our house in Cambridge on October 3rd and spent the two days prior to that finishing up getting our stuff out and cleaning it.  While we were finishing packing, we found out we had an offer on our house in Kettering.  We then found out we had two offers!  We officially got the contract signed and are under contract with our house in Kettering!
We found out a few weeks ago that Josh’s mom was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma. She is in the middle of the staging work-up, but everything we know so far looks like this is not an aggressive cancer. Once the staging workup is complete the oncologist will most likely recommend either radiation therapy or close observation.
Please be in prayer for Beth’s brother and family.  He is stationed on a ship off the west coast and his family has been living in Santa Rosa, CA.  Sunday night, my sister-in-law, nieces and nephew were evacuated from their home with only the clothes on their backs, and the house was a total loss.  I am so thankful for the Lord’s protection on their lives, as they were woken up by a neighbor when the fire was in their yard.  I am devastated with them for the absolute destruction of the entire community, but so thankful for their safety.  My brother has been able to leave the ship to be with them right now.  Please pray as they try to rebuild their lives.
We are currently working on contacting churches and individuals to build our partnership team trying to raise the rest of our support.  If you know of anyone or any churches who would like to hear about our ministry, please let us know, we also love sharing!  Beth is currently leading two individual Bible studies as well as attending a discipleship group.  Josh and Beth are both involved in a Discipleship group based off of Colossians 2:7- “Rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in Thanksgiving”  and have been enjoying digging into the word of God through that group.  Beth has two Bible courses she has to finish up and is currently working on a Methods of Bible Study course.  The kids are loving being able to go to Awana on Wednesday nights and have been flying through learning the verses!  Avery turns 4 in October and asks every morning if it’s her birthday yet (It’s on the 17th).  We want to be at 100% by the end of April so we can spend the rest of the time getting prepared, getting our container ready to ship and get ready for Togo.  To do that, we want to be at 80% by December 15th!  Let us know if you want more information or would like to partner with us!

Praises and Prayer requests:
Praise for the safety of Beth’s brother’s family in Santa Rosa, CA
Pray for them as they work to rebuild their lives over the next several months
Praise that our house in Cambridge sold and our house in Kettering is under contract to sell
Pray that everything will continue go smooth with the sale of our house in Kettering this time.
Praise as we are able to be involved in ministry with our sending church and Beth has been able to do some Bible studies with local women.
Pray as we continue to try to build up our partnership team to get to 100%!
