2 Timothy 1:7

Josh and Beth Paulick on August 31, 2014

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7

There are a lot of frightening things in the news lately. We find ourselves watching the news often, with the ebola virus and militant anti-Christian groups making headlines.  We have been talking recently about how much there is at this time to fear.  We recently watched a news interview with Matt Lauer and Jeremy Writebol (son of Nancy Writebol, who survived Ebola that she contracted while working in Liberia).  We were struck by his answer when he was asked “how he would feel if his mother makes a full recovery and his parents decide to return to Liberia to continue their missionary work and help Ebola victims.”
"Go for it,'' he said. "This is what they've been called to do, and this is what they feel in their heart. It won't be an easy decision for them, but I won't be surprised. If I do have a say, I'll say yes."
We were struck by their family’s faith in the Lord, even going through this crisis.  We find that we need to remind ourselves that God is sovereign and there is nothing going on that He does not know about.  Beth was recently asked if we were still planning on going to Togo given the recent Ebola outbreak in West Africa, especially with our children.  Beth’s answer was “yes.”  We feel that there is such an incredible need for the Lord and feel the urgency even more to get to Togo.  Our hearts are with the missionaries already in Togo and the other missionaries on their way, and we are excited to join them soon (in the Lord’s timing).  We have been praying the Ebola crisis will be eliminated before it can spread to Togo.
On another note, the last few months have been busy adjusting to Beth working again, and traveling visiting friends and family.  During this time, we were able to share our ministry with a Sunday School class at Beth’s brother’s church.
In September, Beth has the opportunity to attend a conference for work in Dallas.  Josh and the kids are tagging along, and Josh is excited to spend some time with the kids.  Avery is 10 months old now and crawling, getting into everything and trying to walk.  Elijah is 2 1/2 and loves to make sure Avery isn’t getting into everything.  He enjoys trying to memorize Bible verses with Daddy before bed at night.

Prayer and Praises:
Praise that Beth gets to attend a conference for work and Josh and the kids get some quality time to spend together.
Praise for the unexpected opportunity to present our ministry in a Sunday School class
Prayer for those affected by the Ebola outbreak
Prayer for us to dedicate more time for pre field ministry
